What can we say apart from praise this little gem we happened to fall on completely by chance. The food is good – VERY, VERY GOOD! The place is small, which makes it perfect and the decor is gorgeous in its warm colours and simplicity, and the service was fast and lovely. You almost feel as if you’re in someone’s home being cooked the most sumptuous home cooked meal.
We went through the Mezze menu and it was tough deciding what to choose. I wanted to order more than we would have been able to eat (as usual), but our waiter gave us reason to come back. While we waited for dishes to come out, we were served a little plate of polenta bread muffins with a side of butter. Within only a few minutes, our Ajvar, a red pepper relish arrived with these amazing fresh homemade flat breads. If you’re from the Med, you will have eaten a lot of skinned roasted red peppers with a splash of olive oil because you love them. Well this version was equally as delicious and brought back those tastes I love. We also ordered the Chicken Liver Paté with a pear pureé and forest fruit reduction. The plate was scraped clean as it would have been a little weird to catch us licking it clean. Was tempted. It’s the best chicken paté I’ve had.
The mains were surprisingly fast to follow. We ordered the Stuffed Vine Leaves with minced beef, mustard potato mash and yoghurt and we’re going back to order it again. This dish is fantastic. The Pljeskavica was also delicious with its Wagyu beef patty stuffed with bacon and cheese with spice Moravian salad and soft flatbread, but the stuffed vine leaves were truly memorable.
There is a lot to also choose from on the dessert menu, but as STUFFED as we were, we convinced ourselves that sharing a Tufahija was perfectly sane and would help the digestion. It’s a lovely walnut stuffed poached apple with vanilla sauce, a perfect end to our new culinary discovery.
