GOLDFISH | Sushi and Yakitori

Chef Akmal Anuar, creator of the award winning contemporary Asian restaurant 3Fils, strikes again with his all-new Goldfish Sushi and Yakitori restaurant recently opened in the Galleria Mall on Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah. A stylish interior of polished concrete floors, accents of wood with green and black details entice you in with the added bonus of the outside terrace which is perfect for alfresco dining at this time of year.

You are going to want to try everything on this delectable and creative new menu and we’ve made a good start on Chef Akmal’s new creations for our first round. Two things I can’t ignore on a menu are “caviar” and “uni”! Without hesitation we ordered the Caviar Brulee from the appetizers. The little ramekin dish arrived at our table and it’s a beautiful sight to behold – a sumptuous foie gras crème brûlée perfectly paired with fat slivers of uni (sea urchin), a hefty portion of caviar and garnished with chives and a slice of lime, and it’s just sublime. What a unique combination of all that’s rich and opulent.

We also love the delicate flavours of eel, and so we chose the Unagi and Avocado Sushi and it was every bite as delicious as it looks. The chefs de partie season it for you with the perfect balance of soy sauce which is customary in good cuisine. The next dish to arrive was the Wagyu Foie Gras Slider, which is the overall mouth-watering choice in this duo selection, though we also tried the Chicken Teriyaki Slider which was perfectly respectable.

The Yakitori Chicken Tsukune is served with an Onsen tamago to dip into the creamy white and egg yolk, accentuating the fulfilment of this oval skewered meatball. Our Yakitori Scallops were served on the side with a wedge of lime and melted in your mouth. A pure joy.

The Shrimp Spicy Noodles were the ultimate comfort food with their sweet and sour sauce, which fell just on the right side of sour with a perfect hint of chili, and we completed our lunch journey with the Yakitori Australian 9+ Skewer, which unfortunately came well done. This was a shame, as the flavour was impeccable, so we’ll just have to make sure we reorder it and get it cooked à point. There was no room for dessert, but there’s always the next visit to look forward to.
